first night

here's the rest...finishing off what i started before:

making our way through traffic, we make our way back to Wycliffe and supper. after a toast with juice or water we head in for a pasta supper.

after dinner we decide, tired as we are, we want to go out for a bit, and head down the street. we run into some of our group that say the Internet cafe is closed, so a few stop at the mcdonald's which has some computers. the rest of us head back in search of a store that might sell phone cards but the few stores that are open don't. many of us at this time are slightly worried as we had not had the time to go, get cash, buy a phone card and call our parents to let them know that we safely made it here. i asked a fellow eurospringer earlier to borrow her card and quickly called to home to say, "i'm here!" as i knew they were probably pretty worried. after we gave up on phone cards we headed to The Eagle and Child to which we found was now standing room only. i could see why the Inklings would want to write here - the front booths where almost like round little rooms with a table in the middle. we found the Moorhead group in the back and they were celebrating a birthday. it seems to me that they are pretty much here in europe to get drunk. after we were done there we ran over to the Flag andLamb where we found the rest of our group. it was extremely smoky but it was fun for awhile to sit with the rest of the group. i just sat there as others smoked and drank (more drinking than smoking but yet surprised at who did smoke), as i prefer not to do either (especially smoking). shortly after, tired, me and some friends trekked back to wycliffe.

once back, i trudged up the stairs to finally, finally, take a shower as i had not done so since yesterday plus 6 hours. i was warned that it was cold but i wasn't expecting sheets of ice to fall down on me! i quickly was in and out and ran to the sink where there was warm water, trying to warm up. 5 weeks of cold showers is so not going to be fun. heading back to my room i unpacked my things into drawers and got ready for bead. soon after lights out and some talking, jill and i welcomed sleep.

and so was my first day in oxford. so much happened - and yet there is so much more still to experience! we also have a list of items we need to see and do and then to journal them. so here begins the rest of my journalings!
